How is pop culture like religion?
Baseball games, television shows, art exhibitions, movies and even social networks are embedded in the veil of rituals, myths, and rituals that might have "sacred" meaning to us. With the rise of new technologies and the world wide acceptance of liberal views, religion becomes one with pop culture and pop culture becomes one with religion. In today's world, there appears to be no difference between the image of Mary holding baby Jesus and Darth Vader holding little Luke Skywalker. Just like Jesus is the savior and the ultimate hope of Christianity, Luke Skywalker represents the last hope of the Republic in its fight against the evil Empire. Does that mean that Banksy enshrines Luke Skywalker into the realm of the divine and justifies the appearance of the "Jedi Knight" religion in the UK and Australia? No matter how you look at it, it is obvious that pop culture is significantly influenced by religion and religious practices. It is part of human nature to find sacred meaning in profane activities, whether it's about the fanatic following of a sports team or wearing "lucky"socks to your math exam.
