It might seem as if the word religion has changed over the past years but in actuality the backbone of the word remains the same. According to Google dictionary, religion is the "belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power." Our usual perception of the word religion direct us to some relation with God or gods but religion does not necessarily have to be about God or gods. Recently, there's a new religion called "Beyism" created by a group of 12 friends in Atlanta, CA. It is currently led by a self-proclaimed minister called Pauline John Andrews. The root of "Beyism" stemmed from weekly hang sessions where the group would get together every Sunday to listen to Beyonce's songs. Does "Beyism" count as a new religion? Worshippers of God congregate every Sunday to worship him and so does this group of Beyonce worshippers. They find unity with their belief in "Beyism" as well as values and purpose. After all religion is an ubiquitous feature of cultural life and it's inspired by basic, universal facts of life.
